HOW ABOUT SOME ASSISTANCE TO PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS?
We now have a new library in Newberry with much room which includes an excellent genealogical room. That room is well stocked and has internet computers, is quiet at the side isolated from traffic, etc. It lends itself perfectly to SAR, DAR and other such enrollment/application assistance as mentioned the article. My thought was to recruit at least one other member SAR or DAR and commit to a couple hours a week helping others with research and applications in a general way. Sunday afternoon 2-4 seemed perfect to me. A normal quiet time and as it deals with history of family it is a sacred undertaking! Presently the library is not opened on Sunday which means if they could be persuaded to open just that area for the couple hours it was be fantastic! Even so their hours are M, W, Th and F 9 - 5:30, Tu 9 - 8 and Sa 9 - 4. If anyone SAR or DAR could attend any regular day once a week for a couple hours I will give any time as I am retired and live less than 2 miles from the library. I will set up the sessions with library and also see the events get published in the local paper.
